Rangehoods General / Installation Tips It is important to consider the width of the rangehood when pairing with the cooktop to ensure optimum results The selection of any rangehood should also take the type of cooktop into account: With gas cooktops, the tip of the flame can reach temperatures of up to 1,100 °C. Because of this, gas cooktops effectively accelerate the rate at which vapours rise; vapours tend to be largely invisible and the heat will form a dome above the centre of the burner. Consequently, Miele recommends that above gas cooktops, the width of the rangehood should be no smaller than the active cooking area. With induction cooktops, the vapours tend to be cooler, typically only around 200 °C, and cool down even further as they rise. Some components of the steam will condense and never quite reach the rangehood, but will be visible as clouds as they descend again. In addition, the heat dissipation above induction cooktops will not form a dome above the cooking zone, but will tend to travel outwards. Consequently, Miele recommends that above an induction cooktop, the rangehood should ideally be slightly wider than the cooktop itself.
